KUKA Innovation Award Winners
The winners of the KUKA Innovation Award 2020 have been announced: an Italian research team convinced the jury with its innovative concept for non-invasive surgical procedures.
The research team of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, coordinated by Prof. Arianna Menciassi, wins the 2020 KUKA Innovation Award thanks to its innovative concept for a non-invasive surgical procedure.
The KUKA Innovation Award is a highly competitive and internationally recognized prize, that celebrates the best ideas in the field of automation and robotics. In the 2020 competition, the KUKA Innovation Award’s international jury of experts received a total of more than 40 ideas.
“Our project – explains Arianna Menciassi (now, president of the Technical Scientific Committee of Soundsafe Care) – combines the flexibility of robotics with the power of focused ultrasound. This system increases the accuracy and therapeutic opportunities of focused ultrasound-based surgery, a non-invasive and safe alternative to traditional surgery.”
The jury particularly appreciated such an innovative approach to the use of robotics combined with ultrasound technologies, which allows surgical interventions to be performed with greater precision and safety, while minimizing the invasiveness and side effects associated with traditional techniques.
Receiving the KUKA Innovation Award 2020 is a validation of our group’s commitment to innovation, and it also serves to strengthen our determination to advance our mission and bring such an innovative device into the market.
